Rev Paul Wilson RIP
Paul Wilson was a wonderful, man, priest, husband,
friend and father.
What an epitaph!! But Oh so true.
We were all sad when Paul died peacefully in The Weir
Nursing Home after a short stay on 25th April. Paul
was born in Southhampton and spent most of his life
in the Film Industry. Working for Ealing Studios as
a camera man and then for the BBC. His list of film
credits is enormous and includes films like the Lavender
Hill Mob and many others. For the BBC he worked in news,
children's, drama and sport and a myriad of documentaries.
Paul was married to Ann who died in 1998 and they had
two boys: Paul John who died in 2006 and Anthony who
survives him.
Paul was a life long Scout working through cubs, scouts,
rovers, ventures and becoming a leader and District
Commissioner. He was awarded the Medal of Merit and
the Silver Acorn the highest award in Scouting.
He became Rev Paul Wilson in 1983 working in the Birch
Group, Marden and latterly here in the Weobley & Staunton
Group. A large man with an amazing presence he was friend
to all both young and old and he always had time to
chat and listen and pray.
Many people in Staunton remember his daily notices
being placed in his cottage window with words of encouragement
and messages for the community. As a priest he had the
loudest voice in the business but tempered that with
a gentlenss and humility which was an example to all.
I could write for ever about Paul but I cant and so
I finish by saying it was an honour and privilege to
know him and I, like many other people loved him dearly.
May the souls of the faithful rest in peace and rise
in Glory.
