The Parish Church of
Saint Nicholas Norton Canon.
NEWS FROM NORTON CANON
Firstly the good news is that contractors have been appointed
for the first stage of work on the Church, and even better
news is that English Heritage have given their approval so
with that grant we have sufficient money to go ahead.
We still need to raise funds for the work on the bells, so
there can be no letting up in our efforts to continue to raise
money. We had thought that workmen could move in during May,
but, as the bats have a say in the matter it is most likely
that we shall see the first signs of action in August or September.
It is during September to April that disturbance is least
problematic.
The next Fund Raiser (and we have to keep going even it only
to raise funds for our running costs) is on Saturday 3rd May
in the Church. It will be a Fairtrade (coffee) Fun (well we
are not too serious in Norton Canon, except for fund raising)
and Flowers ( wedding on 26th April).
Please come and see us and bring your friends. All will be
welcome from 10am onwards.
Our thanks go to a number of people who helped us to raise
£452 (all bar fourpence) at the end of January at what was
styled as a Bring and Bling Morning. To those who donated,
those who who came and it goes without saying those who manned
stalls and sold raffle tickets, a grateful vote of thanks.
We did not quite manage to sell every item on the Bookstall
and we have what appears to be the full Inspector Morse series
on video cassette. They can be viewed at and no sensible offer
will be refused. Give me a call.
Now, a date for your diary. On 14th June Robert and Samantha
Maskray at Darkley will be hosting a Garden Fete, so keep
that Saturday free. We are still working on the details, but
if you wish to lend a hand we shall be pleased to hear from
you. Actually we shall be delighted to hear from you. Watch
this space for developments.
