June 2008
Dear Friends
On the 9th of June we celebrate St Columba of Iona
St Columba travelled to Scotland in 533 from Ireland
and established himself on the island of Iona as a missionary
and evangelist.
To this day Iona remains a place of pilgrimage and
prayer, visited by 100's of people each year as they
explore their personal spirituality.
June is a month of endings and beginnings. Young people
are leaving school or preparing for the long Summer
Holidays and us older people are forgetting (hopefully)
the dark days of winter and enjoying the long crazy
hazy days of Summer.
As we do this we do well to remember people like Columba.
He was an ordinary person who loved god and wanted to
share God's love with others. It is easy when all is
bright and warm to forget to spend time with God and
to thank Him for all the gifts he shares with us.
Perhaps this year we can follow the teaching of Columba
and all the other saints and share with each other the
love of God in our hearts and celebrate the gifts that
we receive from Him.
Creator God, when I forget you PLEASE remember
me.
Amen
With my love and prayers
