"Last week I was asked if I would finish off some
Church embroidery by the leader of my sewing group. It wasn't
for one of the churches in our area, but I was between projects
and was glad to be able to help out. What I had not realized
until I started working on it, was the sense of fellowship
it gave me with those who had worked on it before."

"First of all may I wish you all a very peaceful
and happy 2012 New year is a time of looking backwards and
forwards. As we reflect on the last 12 months there have been
a huge number of changes in the world and considerable changes
in the way in which people live. "

"It always amazes me how quickly time goes
by, here we are in December and preparing for Christmas and
2012.
The Christmas Season is always busy, there is a myriad
of things to do and decisions to make. I have been thinking
over the past few weeks how complicated life seems to be."

There's a wilderness in God's mercy - This is the first
line of a hymn and when a friend of mine announced the hymn
he called it, by mistake, "a wilderness in God's mercy" instead
of "a wideness in God's mercy"

Harvest. We see all around us the fruits of those who work
so hard with our land and then move the produce to barns and
markets so that we and many others may enjoy them at our tables."

"September is the month when a large number of people
start new stages within their lives. Some people start school
for the first time, most young people move up a class, some
move to a new school or college or university or even a real
job for the first time, if they have been lucky enough to
find one."

"Love your neighbour as yourself One of the many
things that I love about living in a rural area is the way
that, in most cases, people look out for each other and care
for one another. Often people say to me "thank goodness that
I live here because I know that the folk here really do care"

"There was a day last week when the garden fence
had been removed and I felt very vulnerable, even though I
knew there were no cattle or livestock in the field. Somehow
the garden felt exposed to all comers. Our farmer neighbour
has now had a new and better fence erected, but I started
to think about the way we use fences to protect things that
are precious to us." Click

Wherever we look we can see the stunningly beautiful apple
blossom and a myriad of crops and flowers growing like mad
as they prepare to come to full bloom and fruit."

"It seems a long time since we had all that snow
over Christmas and the Country seemed to almost grind to a
halt. One of the things that struck me about the extreme weather
was the way in which many people came together as communities
to either help each other out or, in some cases, play together
in the snow."

"November is a moth when we "remember". Guy Fawkes
is commemorated on the 5th with bonfires and fireworks as
we remember his attempt to blow up the houses of parliament.
I hope that this year all those who use fireworks will remember
to be safe and take care so that 2010 is not a year to be
remembered as the year so and so was badly injured by a firework
being used irresponsibly."

"All roads lead to Rome. Bob and Pat King have just
been there and Henry and I are off there early this month.
Rome has been quite a special city for the two of us. We did
our courting there and have visited it several times, even
living in its suburbs for a short spell. We are not sure what
we are going to see and do this time, except we are both determined
to visit the Appian Way and walk again on the ancient paving
stones that have been there for more than 2 millennia. "

"September is the season of harvest and by tradition
we celebrate Harvest Festivals in nearly all of our churches.
At harvest time we give thanks to God for all the good gifts
that we see around us many of which are sent from heaven above,
to use a paraphrase of the lovely harvest hymn " we plough
the fields and scatter" "

"Recently I met a wonderful woman in hospital. She
had had bowel cancer a year or so ago and had had a chunk
of her bowels removed and a stoma bag fitted with all the
awkwardness that entails. But more recently the surgeon had
tried to reverse the operation, and now after three unsuccessful
attempts she had had to realise that she would have to live
with that stoma bag for the rest of her life. " Click

"May is a month for celebration. Firstly we have
our Parliamentary Elections, and whether your preferred Party
or Candidate gets elected, it is above all an occasion to
celebrate. Maybe like me your heart fails when the media is
filled with staged photoshoots in city streets or with televised
confrontations of the party leaders, but how fortunate we
are to be part of a democratic nation. A look at life in undemocratic
nations is a healthy reminder of the alternatives! "
