Council of Christians
& Jews
Marches Branch
You are invited to our next meetings,
which are as follows:
Monday 10th September
'The Success of the CCJ and its
Future'.
Speaker: David Gifford Chief Executive Officer CCJ
David will talk about the fact that our success in the
past was due to the pioneering spirit and courage of
the branches. In an ever dangerous and fragile world
that same spirit of pioneering in interfaith relations
is needed as much now as ever.
Monday 8th October
Jewish and Christian Music
Speaker: David Ventura
David will be exploring the differences between Jewish
and Christian music and why and how they sound different.
Monday 12th November
The Ethics of War in Judaism
Speaker: Rabbi Dr. Norman Solomon
Dr Solomon will survey Jewish sources relating to the
justification and conduct of war, from the Bible and
rabbinic interpretation to recent times, including special
problems of the State of Israel. He will show that there
is strong convergence between contemporary Jewish teaching,
modern human rights doctrine and international law.
Dr. Solomon served as an Orthodox rabbi in Britain and,
since 1983 has been engaged in interfaith relations
and in academic work, most recently at the University
of Oxford. He has written several books, including,
'A Very Short Introduction to Judaism', published by
OUP.
