Dementia Friends

Two dozen Weobley, Staunton, Byford and Norton Canon people engaged enthusiastically with word games and other group activities designed to raise awareness of what dementia is, in Weobley’s Hopelands Hall on Saturday, May 12.

The Dementia Friends event, which followed a format devised by Alzheimer’s Society, mixed up people from the different villages with two rounds of discussion to brainstorm simple community actions that would make a difference. Voting with coloured dots revealed that awareness-raising, by promoting discussion, using social media and taking school assemblies, was the top desire. Other high-ranking suggestions included clearer signage in public places, a Dementia Friends Club for mutual support of carers and family members, and dementia friendly churches. Read more...
